Here in Austria and Germany there's one popular kids channel that used to air a ton of anime like Pokémon, Naruto, Inu Yasha and whatnot but since it was a kids channel and they aired all those during the day they had to cut and censor...a lot. Especially Naruto got hit really badly by that, with deaths being censored as "He/She disappeared or got kidnapped.", whole bloody and violent segments just completely left out to make the story really hard to follow. Of course, on top of that you had some lovely German dubs capable of scaring you off any anime for life. Thankfully I managed to recover from the shock once I found out about Japanese voices+subs years ago.
Pretty much everyone has seen some bits before from switching through channels and formed their preconceptions from that, so in my country it's impossible to get anyone to accept or understand that anime is far beyond silly, childish cartoons (or the completely butchered versions airing on that channel).
